About Sim
Sim is a career prosecutor. He is currently the Chief City Prosecutor for Salt Lake City, the largest municipal prosecutor’s office in the state of Utah. He has more than 15 years of prosecuting experience through the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office, Salt Lake City and Layton City. He has prosecuted in the areas of white collar crime, felony drunk driving, environmental crimes and the sexual exploitation for profit cases.
As a veteran prosecutor and supervisor, Sim knows the programs that work and the policies and practices that are failing us. But his passion for making Salt Lake County the best it can be goes beyond being a successful prosecutor.
That’s why, more recently, he has been involved in issues of therapeutic justice, criminal prosecution and alternatives to prosecution. He is a big advocate of a systems approach to the issues of criminal and social justice, focusing on collaborative and community oriented approaches to problem solving.
In fact, Sim has collaborated on the creation and implementation of various therapeutic justice programs. They are:
- Mental Health Court
- SLC Domestic Violence Court
- Johns Program
- Passages Program
- SLC DUI Court
- Misdemeanor Drug Court
- Public Sex Crimes Program
- Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center
- Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Program
These alternatives seek to transition those offenders out of the criminal justice system who can most benefit from other programs—giving them a much greater chance to not re-offend.
And in 2006, Sim was a part of a team representing Salt Lake City that was recognized as one of the top three cities in the world for its work on criminal and social justice issues by the World Leadership Forum in London, England.
Sim was graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. degree in History and Philosophy. He received his J. D. degree and certificate of specialization in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
All of these accomplishments, however, pale in comparison to the most important things in Sim’s life: his wife, Jamie Tabish, their son and daughter Vikram and Anjali, and of course, their dachshund, Loki.
